Pre-trials are the beginning of Nosework.  In order to compete in regular classes you have to prove that your dog can recognize the target odor.  This is done in a Pre-trial.  The dog only has to pass once and then they can enter all of the regular classes for that odor.  There are five levels of pre-trials, one for each odor, Birch is Novice, Anise is Advanced, Clove is Superior, Myrrh is Master and Vetiver is Elite.
